Position Summary
The Project Engineer is the technical and contractual backbone of the project team. Working under the Project Manager, the PE manages RFIs, submittals, change management, cost tracking, and coordination with the GC, engineers of record, and vendors on large electrical scopes. That includes hyperscale data center, MV/LV distribution, temporary power, and industrial work. The PE is the link between the drawings, the contract, and the field.

Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Project Manager / Senior Project Manager. Works closely with Superintendents, Foremen, the Scheduling and Delivery Timing teams, Logistics, Procurement, QA/QC & Commissioning, and Estimating.
Core Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering Coordination
- Review contract drawings, specifications, and bulletins; find conflicts and scope gaps early
- Write, submit, and track RFIs; get answers out to field leadership
- Prepare and manage submittals for switchgear, UPS, generators, busway, cable tray, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems
- Take part in BIM/MEP coordination and prefab/work-package planning
- Support QA/QC, inspections, and commissioning (L1–L5) documentation
Change Management & Cost Control
- Price and prepare change orders, EWOs, and T&M tickets with full backup
- Track bulletin and change-order logs and reconcile them with the client
- Help with cost-to-complete forecasts, labor productivity tracking, and monthly billing
- Review vendor quotes and subcontractor proposals; support buyout and subcontract scope
Schedule, Procurement & Logistics
- Build and maintain the equipment and material procurement log, including long-lead items and release dates
- Coordinate delivery timing with Logistics, the Warehouse, and the GC to support look-ahead schedules
- Track vendor fabrication, shop drawings, and ship dates against the critical path
Field & Client Support
- Walk the site regularly to check progress, installation quality, and as-built conditions
- Attend and help lead OAC, coordination, and subcontractor meetings
- Maintain red-lines and as-builts and turn over closeout documents (O&Ms, warranties, test reports)
- Mentor Project Coordinators and support the development of junior staff
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent field experience
- 2–5 years as a Project Engineer or Assistant PM with an electrical or MEP contractor
- Solid grasp of electrical distribution systems, construction documents, and the NEC
- Experience managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders on commercial or industrial projects
- Strong Excel skills; working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft 365
Preferred
- Hyperscale data center or mission-critical experience (MV switchgear, UPS, gensets, busway, temp power)
- Familiarity with ACC/Procore, Viewpoint/Vista, and P6 or MS Project
- Experience in union (IBEW) labor environments
- Exposure to prefab, VDC/BIM, and commissioning processes
- OSHA 30, NFPA 70E

Strong PEs keep technical questions moving, changes addressed, and materials on site when crews need them. This role is also the main pipeline for future Newtron Project Managers.
