Position: Health & Safety Specialist – Emergency Preparedness
i-80 Gold Corp is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Safety & Health Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting operational staff and across all levels of the organization to recommend and develop strategies to identify and control risk in the workplace.
Location: Granite Creek near Golconda, NV with some travel to other i-80 Gold properties.
Responsibilities
- Develop safety-related training and facilitate safety training sessions to include New Hire, Hazard, Visitor, and Annual Refresher Training.
- Support loss control-based decision-making by identifying, communicating, and managing health and safety risks that could impact people, schedule.
- Participate in regulatory inspections as the Safety and Health Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Act as the Safety and Health SME during root cause investigations.
- Serve as a resource or facilitator for incident investigations, utilizing a formal method to ensure that all incidents are accurately investigated to determine root cause.
- Communicate and maintain relations with outside or third-party emergency response services that may respond to assist with site incidents.
- Compliance with Emergency Response regulatory requirements at the corporate, local, state, and federal levels.
- Follow-up and audit assigned safety incident corrective actions, audit site contractor adherence to i80 Gold Safety and Health Standards.
- Participate and be able to lead Formal and High-Level Risk Assessments.
- Provide support to fellow Safety and Health team members.
- Support and lead procedures and standards development.
- Actively participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and other safety-related communication sessions.
- Maintain regulatory compliance data.
- Utilize safety management software.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to work with and communicate with all levels of management and federal agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Proven safe work record.
- Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate with others in a professional manner and maintain confidential information.
- Demonstrated time management skills.
- Ability to develop and implement OHS programs and systems.
- Possess or obtain Nevada State EMR certification within one (1) year.
- Six (5) years of active participation on a Mine Rescue Team preferred.
- Three (3) years Mine Rescue Coordinator and/or supervisory experience preferred.
- Certification as an MSHA-approved instructor (blue card), surface, underground, and mine rescue strongly preferred.
- Experience in the administration of emergency response programs in a mining or industrial setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of MSHA and State regulations.
- Surface and Underground mining experience preferred.
- Industrial Hygiene general knowledge preferred.
- Computer skills, including experience with PowerPoint, Word & Excel, required, database management system experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
