Position: Capital Projects Safety Specialist – Autoclave Project
The Capital Projects Safety Specialist – Autoclave Project will be a key member of the Autoclave Project leadership team and will report directly to the Vice President of Health, Safety, & Security with a dotted-line functional reporting relationship to the Autoclave Project Director, ensuring alignment with corporate safety strategy, policies, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role is responsible for providing dedicated health and safety leadership for the planning, construction, installation, commissioning, and handover of the Autoclave Project. The position partners closely with project management, engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, and contractors to ensure that project activities are executed safely, in compliance with regulatory requirements, and aligned with i-80 Gold Corp’s Health and Safety Management System.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary safety advisor to the Autoclave Project Director and project leadership team.
- Provide visible, field-based safety leadership throughout all phases of the Autoclave Project, including construction, mechanical completion, commissioning, and transition to operations.
- Support project decision-making by identifying, communicating, and managing health and safety risks that could impact people, schedule, cost, or project outcomes.
- Lead the development and implementation of project-specific safety plans, including construction safety management plans, commissioning safety plans, and contractor safety requirements.
- Support contractor safety prequalification, onboarding, and mobilization activities in coordination with project management and procurement.
- Facilitate and verify field-level and formal risk assessments, including job hazard analyses and critical risk reviews for high-risk activities.
- Ensure project activities comply with applicable MSHA regulations, State of Nevada mining regulations, and company safety standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related interactions with MSHA and state regulators during project activities.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance documentation associated with the Autoclave Project.
- Lead or support investigation of safety incidents, near misses, and high-potential events occurring on the project.
- Ensure root causes are identified, and corrective actions are implemented, tracked, and verified.
- Monitor project safety performance trends and provide regular reporting.
- Maintain alignment with i-80 Gold Corp’s Health and Safety Management System, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in corporate safety initiatives, audits, and governance processes as they apply to capital projects.
- Share lessons learned, best practices, and emerging risks from the Autoclave Project to support continuous improvement across the organization.
- Support development and execution of project emergency response and preparedness plans, including coordination with site operations, contractors, and local emergency response agencies.
- Assist with safe transition and handover of the Autoclave Project from construction and commissioning to operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a health and safety or mining-related discipline preferred with a combination of:
- Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience or
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the mining industry or a strong mix of construction and mining safety experience
- Professional safety certifications (CSP, CMSP, CIH) preferred
- Construction Industry (OSHA 30, 500, 501) certifications preferred
- Certification as an MSHA-approved instructor for surface operations (blue card) preferred
- Experience in the administration of emergency response programs in a mining or industrial setting is preferred
- Experience or knowledge of people, property, and product security management required
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, listening, written) required
- Ability to develop and maintain constructive and collaborative working relationships required
- Competent use of Microsoft Office software required
- Competence in field-level and formal risk assessments and incident investigations required
- Ability to travel to mine, project, and exploration sites required
- Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position required
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, demanding work environment required
