Position Summary
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the site’s health and safety programs at Blue Moon Metals’ mining and mineral processing operations in the United States, primarily at Springer in Imlay, Nevada but may include other properties in the Southwestern United States. This role ensures compliance with all applicable U.S. regulations, promotes a strong safety culture, and works closely with operations teams to reduce risk and prevent incidents.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Program Support
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of site-specific health and safety policies, procedures, and programs
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, including Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
- Participate in risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safe work procedure development
- Act as a technical advisor and mentor to the site management team while working with S&H leadership to develop and implement strategies to control immediate risks in the workplace and find solutions S&H problems.
Compliance, Reporting, Training & Awareness
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and safety observations
- Implement training and compliance for corrective actions and needs
- Maintain accurate records for training, inspections, incidents, and regulatory reporting
- Accompany division management along with MSHA and State inspectors during inspections.
- Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking
- Coordinate and deliver safety training programs, including new hire orientation and refresher training
- Ensure all employees and contractors meet required safety training standards (e.g., MSHA Part 46/48 training)
- Promote safety awareness campaigns and initiatives across the site
- Assist with health testing and individual testing and industrial hygiene activities as needed.
- Serve as a resource or facilitator for incident investigations, Tap Root, 5 WHY, and/or Fishbone, while playing a meaningful role in the development of effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence of safety incidents or Industrial Hygiene exposure.
- Maintain accurate documentation and data entry entry into databases
- Assist in Team Based and Formal Risk Assessments by facilitating, developing, and monitoring action plans.
- Provided mentorship and support to all employees.
Field Support & Engagement
- Provide day-to-day safety support to mining and processing operations
- Engage with supervisors and workers to reinforce safe work practices
- Participate in toolbox talks, pre-shift meetings, and safety committees
Emergency Preparedness
- Support the development and maintenance of emergency response plans
- Participate in emergency drills and ensure readiness of personnel and equipment
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred; and equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a health & safety role, preferably in mining, heavy industry, or manufacturing
- Contractor management experience required
- Familiarity with mining and mineral processing operations is highly desirable
Certifications (Preferred)
- MSHA certification/training (Part 46 or 48)
- OSHA 30-hour (General Industry or Construction)
- First Aid / CPR certification
