Role
We are seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join our Maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing maintenance activities site wide, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of all equipment supporting process operations. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities focused on equipment reliability, safety, and operational readiness. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization committed to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the clean energy sector.
The role is based at Thacker Pass and reports to the Maintenance Superintendent. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, vendor, or other locations may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads all maintenance activities with a strong safety-first mindset, ensuring strict compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations along with site specific safety standards; actively identifies and mitigates observed hazards, conducts regular safety inspections and toolbox talks, and fosters a culture where safe work practices and personal accountability are non-negotiable. Champions site safety standards, promotes open communication within group and leads by example.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability and availability.
- Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan, schedule, track, and document maintenance activities, ensuring timely execution and accurate records.
- Lead and participate in troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of complex mining equipment, including mobile and fixed plant assets (equipment to be specified as applicable).
- Conduct routine inspections, audits, and condition assessments to proactively identify equipment issues and implement corrective actions.
- Lead and supervise the maintenance team in the inspection, repair, and preventive maintenance of upstream mining equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Manage, coach, and develop maintenance personnel through effective work assignment, performance feedback, and training to build a skilled, safety-focused workforce.
- Assist with developing and tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for maintenance such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Asset Reliability, etc.
- Enforce strict compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational regulations during maintenance activities, promoting a zero-incident work environment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, equipment histories, and performance data to support analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain to source materials, manage spare parts inventory, and ensure maintenance readiness while minimizing downtime.
- Assist in developing and managing maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high equipment reliability and availability.
- Coordinate maintenance activities and schedules with Operations, Production, and EHS teams to align with operational priorities.
- Rapidly identify and resolve equipment issues using effective troubleshooting and root cause analysis techniques to minimize operational disruptions.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness.
- Builds and maintains trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an industrial maintenance or maintenance mechanic role, preferably in mining, heavy industrial, or processing environments.
- At least three (3) years of demonstrated experience in a maintenance leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial equipment and machinery design, operation, and maintenance requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable safety regulations, environmental compliance standards, and industry best practices.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop maintenance teams.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues.
- Ability to apply strategic and preventive maintenance principles to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Experience assisting with or managing departmental budgets and controlling maintenance costs.
- Strong planning and scheduling capabilities to effectively prioritize maintenance activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to enforcing safety protocols and promoting a strong safety culture.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage spare parts inventory, maintain accurate maintenance records, and document work activities.
